Joseé Cyr combined her passions for food, animals and business into a plan to launch Ottawa’s first daily cat café. This is a step-up from The Purrfect Café which only operates on every second Thursday per month. Cat lovers and those deprived of cats will have The Feline Café to spend all their time and money on this Spring.
Enjoy vegetarian-friendly food, selections of local coffee and a cat room filled with 6 friendly kitties who want you to love and snuggle them. Cyr will be working with local rescues to bring in cats that are behaved and healthy, whom will live in their calm cat room till their adoption day.
The Feline Café is hosting a Kickstarter campaign today, Tuesday, November 15th at SAABOON’s new shop on 595 Gladstone.
She is giving herself two weeks to raise the $5,000 needed to help keep her business going post launch. Cyr says that her café will open regardless of meeting her fundraising goal or not. “The funding for sure helps you get things going. But the real goal is to see what demand there is and to create that buzz and community and to really get people excited about it.”
Inspiration for The Feline Café
“One of the main things I want is to help get cats permanent loving homes, but also to make the experience available to people who can’t have cats.”
The Ottawa Citizen article explains that Cyr had heard about the cat café trend in Asia and Europe but it didn’t inspire her right away until she was unhappy at her job and looking at different options. On her website, Cyr says that her passion for business and vegan food combines with her sensitivity towards the cat overpopulation problem and culminates into her “Why” for going into business.
There is no specific opening date planned, but Cyr hopes to launch her café this spring in Glebe or Hintonburg. She studied commerce at Laurentian University and this is her first big entrepreneurial undertaking and it’s for a great cause, too! We wish her the best of luck.
