Ottawa Landfills

Do you have a trailer full of trash or scrap metals and you need a place to dump? Below we have compiled a list of residential friendly sites for depositing your general waste, mattresses, construction debris, appliances and other scrap metals.

Trail Waste Facility

Address: 4475 Trail Road
Location: Near Moodie/Fallowfield
This is the City of Ottawa’s landfill.

Paper/Cardboard/Books etc: Inform them that you have paper products and the workers will direct you to a large bin where you hand load your paper for recycling.

Tires: Inform them that you have tires to recycle and you’ll be directed to a paved area where you can drop them off for recycling.

Electronic Items: Specify that you are carrying these items in your load so they can point you to a dumpster where all the electronic waste and small household appliances go.

Appliances: Please note that you cannot deposit appliances at the landfill that contain coolant or any type of Freon. If the coolant has been removed, the appliance must be tagged by a professional, stating that the chemical has been removed properly. If your appliance does not use coolant (such as a stove or dishwasher) then you will be directed to the proper disposal area by on-site staff. If your appliance has coolant, you’ll need to schedule a pickup with us or contact Bryans Refrigeration to have the Freon removed.

Garbage/Debris: Give them an idea of the type of debris and they will direct you to an area of the landfill where you can deposit.

Cost: The rates vary for different materials so it is important to specify what you are carrying in your load. For example, they have a reduced rate for yard debris so be sure to sort your load before going to the landfill.

Tip: Saturday’s are very busy and it is advisable to be there right at open time to avoid a long wait to get in and out of the landfill.

Progressive Waste Solutions

Address: 2628 Glenfield Road
Near Stevenage/Hawthorne

This is an indoor transfer station owned by Progressive Waste Solutions. They can only accept waste as they are not a recycling facility. No tires, paper, electronic waste or appliances are permitted.

Cost: The rate is based on the weight of the contents in your load. You should be wearing steel toe boots and they may ask you to wear a hard hat and vest to improve visibility.

Tip: Be aware of your surroundings. The building can be very intimidating as there are large industrial trucks driving around inside, dropping off their waste.

AIM Recycling Centre

AIM Recycling Centre

Address: 120 Bentley Avenue
Near Merivale/West Hunt Club

Previously known as Cohens & Cohens, AIM Recycling Centre is a depot for commercial and residential visitors to drop off electronic waste and other metals for recycling. The rates vary for different types of metals and e-waste. In addition, there is a different rate for loads that are unsorted. Be sure to sort your items into specific categories, for example:

•  Put all your electronic waste together (phones, television sets, radios, etc.).

•  Appliances go together in their own category, from toasters to ovens.

•  Pure metals such as stainless steel plates or copper pipes should be sorted and separated based on their type, before entering the facility.

Each time you deposit a specific category of materials, you have to exit the facility to get your vehicle weighed before re-entering to deposit another kind of recyclable metal.
