At Junk Ninja, we are fully equipped to handle any of your junk removal needs. Our friendly and professional team will arrive on time at your location ready to haul away any items that you need – hot tubs, yard trimmings, appliances, mattresses, renovation materials – you name it! There are, however, some limitations as to what we can remove, which may leave you wondering what don’t we take. The answer is anything that’s deemed as a hazardous material. Here are a few examples of everyday items that we are not permitted to dispose of.
Medical Waste
Any form of medical waste must be handled differently and with extra care since it can harbour infectious agents. Examples of medical waste can include bandages or dressing containing dry blood, syringes, and any form of medical equipment. If you or someone at home generates this form of waste, it’s important to dispose of it using the proper protocols according to federal law.
Motor Oil
Pouring motor oil down the sink or on the ground can contaminate our water, which is why it must also be disposed of carefully, either through a dedicated household hazardous waste facility, auto shop or another collection site. Motor oil can also be recycled and reused, so we commend looking for a recycling facility in your local area when disposing of this type of product.
Paint
At Junk Ninja, we are more than glad to dispose of any empty paint cans that you have. However, any cans that still contain paint in them won’t be permitted. We suggest pouring any old paint into one or two cans and them giving us the empty ones to haul away. If you do have a lot of paint left over, keep in mind that it can last and be reused for up to 15 years! So if don’t have any use for it, we recommend offering it to someone who could use it.
Chemicals
Any corrosive, ignitable, reactive or toxic materials are also deemed as hazardous and need to be treated with care since they should never be poured down the drain or dumped in the trash. If you can’t hold onto the product and wait to use it up, we suggest giving it away to someone who may use any of your household chemicals, or even checking in with a local non-profit to see if they will accept them as donations where others might make use of them. Alternatively, contact your local waste disposal facility to learn where and how you can properly and safely dispose of them.
As much as we’d love to be able to haul away everything, there are specific items that must be dealt with according to defined protocols. Hazardous materials such as these should be dealt with appropriately or taken to designated ‘take back’ facilities, which you can find in your local area. If you’re unsure of how to dispose of any hazardous materials in your home, you can contact your local waste facility services, or give us a call at Junk Ninja and we will do what we can to help steer you in the right direction.
